As we enter into the 2024 Hurricane Season, the Board of Directors would like to encourage you to be
prepared for the possibility of a serious wind or hurricane event. Based on State and Local emergency preparedness guidance and our Hurricane Preparedness Plan (attached), we recommend that
owners:
- Have at least 7 days of supplies to be
adequately stocked and prepared. These supplies include food, water, medicine, batteries, pet supplies, etc.
- Find a contractor and make arrangements to have your
hurricane shutters installed (and then removed) in the event of a hurricane. Waiting until a watch or warning is issued to find a contractor is often times too late. The Bulletin Board page on Verona
Reserves website lists a number of contractors.
- If you are north during hurricane season, please make
arrangements with a contractor directly.
- If you have tenants that are renting your property, please
advise them of their responsibilities. Our property management company does not make hurricane preparation arrangements for individuals.
Once a warning or state of emergency has been
issued:
- Put up hurricane shutters.
- Move all lanai furniture, grills, propane tanks, lawn
ornaments, decorative items, flower pots - no matter how small or big, no matter how light or heavy inside your home or garage.
- Consider installing latches to secure attic doors. Winds
from a hurricane can create a vacuum that pulls the doors up - creating an updraft that can cause damage to the roof and garage door.
- If you have fans on your lanai, consider removing the fan
blades. High winds can damage the fans, or blades can dislodge, if they are left in place.
